Common Core State Standards

The mission of the Common Core State Standards Initiative is to provide a consistent and clear understanding of what students are expected to learn.  The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are new standards in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and content literacy.  The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world.   With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.

These new standards focus on integrating academic content with skill instruction that allows vertical articulation to be possible.  Under the CCSS, a set of clear college- and career-ready standards for kindergarten through 12th grade have been adopted for our students.

California Department of Education has made available Common Core Search, an online searchable database that will permit stakeholders at all phases of implementation to easily access the high-quality resources they need to support local implementation efforts.  The database allows users to employ filters and a keyword search to quickly find the resources they are seeking.

The Berryessa Union School District is excited about the opportunity the Common Core State Standards present for our teachers, principals, staff and most importantly - our students! The Common Core provides us with a clear and consistent goal to ensure that our students are ready for college and career success in a 21st Century global economy.
