Excessive Heat Warning - August 31, 2017

Dear Parents,

According to the National Weather Service, we are expecting excessive heat in the Bay Area through the end of this week.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff are a top priority. We will continue to monitor the heat index for our area and implement the following precautions when the temperature exceeds 95 degrees:

  • Closely monitor individual student conditions
  • Encourage students to drink plenty of water to help stay hydrated
  • Restrict duration and intensity or prohibit outdoor physical activity

In times of excessive heat, all students will be kept in shaded areas or indoors.

Please keep in mind the following tips during times of excessive heat:

  • Never leave children and pets in a parked car
  • Dress children in loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing
  • Make sure you and your child are drinking more water than usual, do not wait until they are thirsty to give them more
  • Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day
  • If you must be outdoors, find shaded spots to stay cool
  • Remember to apply and reapply sunscreen to your children

Please refer to the National Weather Service Heat Index Calculator for a fast and easy way to calculate heat index for our area.

If your child has a particular medical condition that is exacerbated by the heat, please notify the office staff at your school.
