On behalf of the Berryessa Union School District’s Board of Trustees and Administration, we are excited to welcome you back to the 2020 – 2021 school year! We hope you and your families are staying safe and healthy. We want to commend everyone for their resiliency, adaptability and understanding during this unexpected time. Even though we are facing many uncertainties and challenges, BUSD is committed to keeping the health and safety of our students, staff and families as of the utmost importance.
As we look ahead, we are approaching a school year that will look and feel unlike any other. We know that COVID-19 conditions in Santa Clara County and the surrounding Bay Area and state will continue to evolve. That means the guidance we must follow from city, state and federal health authorities will also continue to change — sometimes very quickly. This is our new reality. As a District, we have been planning so that we can be as nimble as possible for these changes.
The Board of Trustees and I greatly appreciate all the “behind the scenes” efforts that happen across the District each summer to ensure we are ready to launch the school year. These supports have significantly changed in a COVID-19 environment and we are so grateful to all of you for helping us create safe work environments as well as assisting us with supporting our students with the technology and tools they will need for distance learning.
Since June, BUSD has made progress on several safety priorities:
Personal Protective Equipment (cloth face coverings, disposable masks, face shields, hand sanitizer, non-contact thermometers, etc.) has arrived and more is on the way.
Deep cleaning custodial services were provided at all District sites and daily disinfecting schedules have been established.
HVAC system air filters have been upgraded with MERV 13 grade filters.
Hand sanitizer dispensers have been placed throughout our school and district facilities.
Plexiglass barriers for front offices have begun to arrive and are in the process of being installed.
Now, let’s take a moment to welcome many new staff members to Berryessa Union this fall. Whether you are in a new leadership position, or have joined or moved to a new school or District department team, we wish you all a successful and exciting school year in BUSD! Please join us in formally welcoming and congratulating the following individuals on their new District positions:
Mr. Dan Norris Director, Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation
Dr. Samantha Rainer Summerdale ES Principal
Ms. Heidi Perry Administrative Assistant, Human Resources
Ms. Bettina Strickland Personnel Assistant I
As always, we have a deep commitment to educate our students continuously throughout the school year, and we fully intend to do so safely, thoughtfully, and with equity guiding our decision making. It is BUSD’s plan to deliver uninterrupted high-quality instruction to ALL students while:
maintaining healthy and safe environments for everyone
supporting the many needs of our students, families and staff as we are able,
and adapting quickly to changing COVID-19 conditions
We know that the upcoming school year will be a challenging one for all of us. It will require our school district and the students and families we serve to be flexible as COVID-19 conditions continue to change. This “new normal” will not be simple or easy. Together we can support a safe and successful school year for everyone.
We have a great deal to look forward to for the new school year as we welcome our students virtually on Monday, August 17, 2020. We are proud and honored that you are part of our district community and this important work!
