High Quality Core Education

Berryessa Union School District (BUSD) provides local students with a quality education that challenges them to excel academically and prepares them for high school and 21st-century jobs. Our great teachers and staff, strong parent involvement and community support combined with rigorous educational programs, standards-based curriculum, and a commitment to excellence produces high student achievement.

Berryessa Union School District Survey

Earlier this year, we reached out to the community to seek feedback about priorities for maintaining quality education for our students. Thank you to everyone who took time to respond to our survey and provide input as we evaluate potential funding options. Click on the links below to see what you told us about your priorities!

Local Funding and Local Control

Since 2008, our community has supported and renewed a $79 parcel tax, previously known as Measure K, that provides locally controlled funding our Berryessa elementary and middle schools. Today, this measure provides over $1.8 million annually for local schools, with all funds staying right here to benefit our local students. However, this funding is set to expire if not renewed before the end of the year.

Measure A:  Renewing Funding for Our Local Schools

To protect the quality of education and instruction in local schools, the Berryessa Union School District Board of Trustees unanimously voted to place Measure A on the November 2, 2021 ballot to renew expiring school funding. Measure A would not increase taxes, but simply renew the existing parcel tax at $79 per parcel per year for eight years to:
  • Maintain core academic programs in science, technology, reading, writing, languages, and math
  • Attract and retain quality teachers
  • Provide learning technology
  • Retain school counselors and library/media technicians
  • Keep school libraries open

Strict Fiscal Accountability Would Be Required

Measure A would continue the same fiscal accountability provisions, including:
  • All funds would be spent in BUSD schools and could not be taken by the State
  • By law, funds would be spent in the classroom, not on administrator salaries
  • Independent citizens’ oversight and annual audits would be required
  • Senior citizen homeowners would continue to be eligible for an exemption
